Here we go!!

First off, I wasn't even close on my host mom's name. It is Clorinda, I suck. I couldn't write a blog yesterday because it was election day and everything was closed. As far as I know the good guy won(he wore jeans, no tie and had a great smile) but my vote wasn't allowed. I made my first stupid mistake(of many I'm sure) and I am calling it the "pollo plunder". I went to a small restaurant and just wanted to order a snack because I was in between lunch and dinner. I had walked about six miles and was in need of nourishment. I tried to order some chicken off the menu but I guess I told the young girl I wanted eight orders. When she brought the food I knew I had screwed up and politely thanked her and carried my massive load(I had gone to the market as well) the half mile home. It cost me about 15 dollars in all, I really should have learned more spanish. I am learning the bus system but I really like walking so far. On the 5th I also went to a plaza and just people watched and read a book. There were large groups of school kids practicing some choreographed dances for the upcoming festival and it was a pleasure to watch the groups perform. I also went by the futbol stadium to get an idea of it's location and I am definitely going to a match while I am here. When I got home I practiced more spanish(ate some of the chicken supply)  and decided to take a shower. Now, the showers here (sometimes) heat up by turning on the electric box that is connected to rods in the shower head. I figured out that the less water you run the warmer it is, duh. Since I am taller than every one here I went to adjust the shower haed and got quite a jolt from the thing, soaking wet with an electric shock is not the most pleasant feeling. With the shower adventure over I went to bed and practiced more spanish with my Rosetta Stone(the only use for my laptop since the only wireless places are miles away). This morning I met with Jenny(project coordinater) and also Michelle another volunteer. I will be responsible for keeping kids ages 6-17 occupied and entertained for 4 hours a day(not much different than LMD except I am the one that doesn't know the language this time) and I will be located at or near one of the local markets. I also jumped at the opportunity to take a trip to Machu Pichu this weekend and through the program it saved me about 150 dollars!!!! Yippee, yeah, goody, loud noises! to say the least I am very excited!! I alkso booked my bus trip on the 25th from here to Lima, 20 hours of neck breaking, high altitude, windy road cruising. Right up my alley! Well, I start the program tomorrow and I need a few more hous of spanish that probably won't stick. I still can't post pictures and I don't know if I can find the right cord here since the computers won't take my card. I have fricken chicken to eat, yech! Adios mi familia y mi amigos!!
