I now have to travel to be able to use the internet. For some reason I can't do this blog anymore at the internet houses so I had to find a place with wireless. Now, this seems easy enough but here the only places that have wi-fi are in the Plaza de Armas and that is about a 20 minute crowded bus ride from where I stay. Also the Inti Raymi(the 2nd largest festival in South America) is starting to kick in and it is crazy down here. To add even more with the travel time I can no longer eat dinner at home so I have to buy my dinner each night from now on. Alright enough of my wining, I'm in frickin Peru, drinking a delicious coca tea and loving life!
MACHU PICHU IS AWESOME!!! I am going to try and add pictures but since I have so many problems trying to post this blog I am just going to post the words first. We started out with 6 volunteers(me, Michelle, elise(?), Vivian, Sorsha and Anna) loading into a van to start a 2 hour, hairpin turn, pass into oncoming traffic, fly at top speed, through the high altitude farms, steep mountain roads hell of a roller coaster ride to Ullaytaytambo. Oh yeah, my kinda ride!!!! We then boarded a train that wound in between massive mountains, hugged the Urabamba river(which have the knarliest rapids I have ever seen and that have killed many kayakers), and snaked through the beginnings of the dense Amazon jungle. Arriving in Aguas Calientes we were quickly led to our hostile where I had my first real shower since I have been here, oh baby. We then went for a stroll and headed over to the hot springs which were a huge disappointment, except for one factor. If you are in the large pool(the place looks like a bad public pool) and you wave your arms a mustached man named Carlos will bring you the drink of your choice from the really cool full bar up on the balcony. Now I know that I am not drinking but I had to take advantage of this excellent service. After the soak we went back to the hostel to wash of the ses-pool and meet our guide. Eddie(I call him Flakey Eddie) arrived and went over all the ins and out for the Machu Pichu trip and the best ways for us to make sure we get a stamp to climp Waynu Pichu. He also pointed recommended a restaurant that we could get good cuy and if we mention that we are with Eddie's group we get a discount of almost half! After the meeting we took his advice and went to the restaurant in which he showed up and sat one table away. We mentioned and even had Eddie say something but no discount and the place was pricey for Peru. We then headed back and talked about what the plan was for the morning. I(being me) said that no matter what I was getting up at 4am and hiking up to Machu Pichu, 3 others joined and 2 opted for the bus at 5:30. Now, the "no matter what" was not expected an all night bathroom party of which the cuy was getting it's just revenge! At about 3:30 I could actually move around but still felt terrible, time to wake the girls. I said I was sick but did not go into details. The hike was a straight up, old-ass stone stairs, mass of people and clenching my butt cheeks the whole time. I thought I might just pass out! I passed many people along the way but I was also passed about 10 times which, when it comes to a race for position, I usually won't let happen. Bottom line is that I made it, beat most of the busses and was in the first 200 so I got my stamp!!! I have to go now because this place is filling up and I am solo taking a large table. To be continued.......
